What is Building Green?

A green building is an outcome of a design which focuses on increasing the efficiency of resource use (energy, water, and materials) while reducing building impacts on human health and the environment during the building's lifecycle, through better site selection, design, operation, maintenance, and removal.

Green buildings are designed to reduce the overall impact of the built environment on human health and the natural environment by:

Efficiently using energy, water, and other resources
Protecting occupant health and improving employee productivity
Reducing waste, pollution and environmental degradation

AMC's EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) Products contribute to Green Buildings

The buildings we live and work in consume approximately 36% of all the energy we use, and produce approximately 30% of all green house gas emissions. For this reason a growing number of builders are turning to Green Building and taking advantage of the “Earth Friendly” characteristics of EPS. Using EPS in commercial and residential construction helps reduce energy consumption and green house gas emissions with the following characteristics.

EPS has higher, more stable long term R-Values than other insulation alternatives.
A home built with an EPS system such as LOGIX ICFs creates an airtight building envelope which reduces air leakage and heat loss, thus reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions in our atmosphere.
EPS has never contained CFC, HCFC, HFCs, or formaldehyde which are harmful to the earth's ozone.
EPS contributes to a healthier indoor environment as it is an inert, organic material. It provides no nutritive value to plants, animals, or micro-organisms. It will not rot and is highly resistant to mildew.
The use of EPS insulation is highly accepted and contributes to many Building Green Certifications. (CaGBC & USGBC LEED Programs, ENERGY STAR, R-2000, Power Smart programs, and many more).
